Peter Eastgate leaves poker

The 24-year old Danish poker player who won 7.2 million euros during the main event at the WSOP last year, has announced that he will leave professional poker, and he will probably not come back unless he needs money or has nothing to do.

He said in a Facebook message: “I was bored of the game, lacking motivation, did not need the money any more so saw no point in continuing. In case I return, it will be because I need an income again or because I am bored doing nothing.“  Eastgate said he had no immediate plans of what to do next. Eastgate has announced his decision via his blog with his online poker sponsor PokerStars, and said that he had to take care of himself. “When I started playing poker for a living, it was never my goal to spend the rest of my life as a professional poker player.

My goal was to become financially independent.” Eastgate said. Two years ago, Eastgate became the youngest player ever to become a WSOP champion. With that, Eastgate beat the record of Phil Helmut. Helmut won the main event of the WSOP in 1989 at the age of 24, he said that the decision of Eastgate goes against the typical decisions of young poker online players when they gain a lot of money and fame by winning a major poker tournament.
