A Scottish court heard the father of an extravagant financier was shot in the head outside a casino in Edinburgh after his son was unable to repay his gamble debt of 1 million pounds. Tony DeMarco, 64, was shot by an assassin because his son Anthony, could not repay the huge amount he borrowed to pay back his gambling debts with the loan sharks. The bulk of these loans came from his addiction to online poker. Antony became increasingly desperate as the debt went up, the 37-year-old, from Danderhall, Midlothian, also had schemed two businesses for an amount of 1 million pound in an attempt to repay outstanding loans after the shooting on his father. Amazingly Tony survived the attempted assassination on the steps of the Gala Maybury Casino in June 2008, but the motives for the shooting remained a mystery until Antony admitted to fraud. Joe Mooney, the lawyer Antony told the court: “Anthony knew that it was inevitable that he would get caught, but if his father was not shot he would never have had to become involved in these activities to pay back the money lenders.” Antony pleaded guilty to fraud after he was snared by RBS investigators who called the police when they discovered he had abused 23 contacts to get fake loans on non-existing assets of Lombard Finance and Hitachi to get. Now you see that poker online cannot always be profitable.
